I stumbled upon Merilieu today while shooting the West Seattle Community Garage Sale for the Seattle Weekly. Her hand decorated hula hoops drew me in, each with multiple layers, colors and textures of fabric and tape. She gave me a demo of some of her favorites, including one made of green fake fur which she calls the “muppet hoop”. She loves to make custom orders and will create a hoop that matches your height and frame (hello adventurous brides & grooms!). A cremesicle hoop she made this morning fit me perfectly so I gave her some greens and stuffed it in the car. The trick will be keeping the dogs away from it.
has a new home on Summit and Mercer. I caught Coco and Spencer hanging the sign while covering Capitol Hill for the Seattle Weekly. Can’t wait to see what they do with the space.
