the hazards of rain

Makeup artist Erin Skipley blogged about our soggy Portland adventure we had during the Decemberists’ Hazards of Love promo shoot with Autumn de Wilde.  I assisted, she make-upped, that lady Sarah Jurado served as Production Assistant and Shirley Kurata and the divine Ms. Rachel Demy were Wardrobe Stylist and Assistant Wardrobe Stylist respectively.  Also helping out was Dianna Potter of Paper Tiger, who lucky for us just happened to be in town.

After the shoot we learned that Erin, Sarah, her husband Damien and I were stuck in PDX due to I-5 flooding.  We shacked up at the Ace Hotel for the night hoping for respite & reopening the next day.  No such luck. We were stuck.   Erin flew home while (now LA based) photographer Annie Beedy was kind enough to open her home up to the rest of us for the evening.  Annie’s house is a bit of an indie rock landmark, as  Elliott Smith lived, wrote and recorded Roman Candle there.   Seeing how Autumn recently released a book of her Elliott Smith photographs, I think this post has officially come full circle.

And if you haven’t had enough hyperlinks of ridiculously talented people to follow yet, here’s another.  You might recognize the woman on the below left as the songstress from Michaela & Nabil’s wedding.  Yup, Becky Stark sings on the new Decemberists’ album.  Oh, the tangled webs!

I’ve been keeping a secret

3/4’s of the Catch is reuniting for the biennial tradition of Disney Cover Night this Wednesday at Chop Suey.  Garrett Lunceford & Andrew Moore and joining me, Carly & Alissa for 4 or so songs (Amy is too busy with school to take this on right now, unfortunately). There is a bit of instrument / role juggling; I’m playing base on a song, tambourine on two others and singing one more.  My chops are a bit rusty, so don’t expect much.  It’s been awhile!

Me in my wilder days.
