My Cousins

I’m back and still trying to catch up on sleep. Acupuncture & massage at the Union Center for Healing this afternoon should help speed the process along. The wedding was awesome. My first ever hurricane wedding (Hanna). The base to one of my flashes was broken by a flying tent wall but otherwise everything went smoothly. Sara, Matt, Jessica, Chris, Leslie, Hannah, Christy – thank you for treating me like a rock star. Come visit your new Seattle friend soon! On the way from NY to Rhode Island I stopped by my cousin’s house in Connecticut to visit for a few hours and break up the drive. I arrived just in time to see her daughter Holly off the bus, fresh from her first week of kindergarten.

Out of Office / Puppy Love

I’m off to shoot Sara & Matt’s lobster bake wedding on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island (hell yeah) and will have limited email access over the next 7 days (uh oh).

I leave you with a snapshot of our new multi-gen Aussie labradoodle awaiting pick-up in two weeks. Two weeks! We’ve been plagued by puppy dreams ever since meeting her.

Goodbye/Hello Opening Party

Sarah Murphy just posted a set of photos from Thursday’s opening party here. Lots of familiar faces and fun times! Here we are – each of us below one of our pieces. We will have to go back and get one of Laura, who was very sick and couldn’t make it. We missed you!

Orcas Island

This weekend’s wedding on Orcas Island was picture perfect. The sun was consistently lit, the family treated me like one of their own and the property was GORGEOUS. I can’t wait to share it with you. My friend and fellow photog Kate McElwee was also there for a separate wedding so we hung out during our off-time, exploring the island and being the goofballs that we are. Doe Bay sure lived up to its name. Deer were everywhere! I snuck into the field in front of my cabin and hunkered down until one of the fawns felt comfortable enough to get close.

We entertained ourselves while waiting for our food at the cafe. (photo by Kate)

We climbed to the top of Mount Constitution:

Then onto Mountain Lake for a hike with the cameras. As you can see, I’ve been playing with flare.

Kate does a ton of boudoir work so we did an impromptu outdoor session. I’ll call this her Lara Croft look!

The last rays of incredible weekend.

Havin an art show at Tigertail

I’ve been so busy with wedding work the past few years that it’s be a long time since I’ve had a show. My good friend Hannah Levine is a regular at Tigertail, a bar Phinney Ridge with a chop suey theme and delicious food, and offered to curate. There was no way I could do a solo show during prime wedding season so she had the great idea to include Sarah Murphy and Laura Musselman, who are just starting out and have been shooting some stuff for her Rocket Queen column in the Seattle Weekly. Many of you have met Sarah already as she assists for the majority of my shoots. The photogs out there are probably familiar with Laura – she’s the spitfire behind the counter at Glazers Camera with a tattoo of Richie Tenenbaum on her arm. They’re both funny, sweet and passionate about photography. Our theme is “You Say Good-bye, I Say Hello” and features three images from each of a homecoming or farewell show in a particular Pacific Northwest band’s career. For me it’s Sleater-Kinney’s final show at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. You can read more on the Seattle Weekly Reverb blog. The important thing is to be there for the party.

Thursday, August 7th
7-10pm
Tigertail, 704 NW 65th St.(click for map)

I hope to see some familiar faces!
