Martha’s House

CAP-HAITI-MarthaHouse

One of Haiti Babi’s success stories is Martha (hard t, soft h), a recent hire. Her husband Samuel was without work when Martha found a job at Haiti Babi. They had saved just enough to pay their yearly rent (Haitians pay rent once a year instead of monthly like we do in the US) and their landlord announced it had increased by 30%. It was an impossible jump to make in such a short time. They had somewhere they could move, land purchased when Samual was working, but it was uninhabitable. They had expected to build on it over years, if not decades, cinderblock by cinderblock. Because Martha was now employed by Haiti Babi she qualified for a bank loan that allowed them to quickly finish the walls of two rooms and install a tin roof to move their family of 7 just in time.  They are still without a bathroom, kitchen, electricity or water. The kids sleep together in one bed. Despite this, they have a lot more than the other families I visiting during my stay.

I’ll be auctioning this print at Haiti Babi’s annual Raise Hope fundraiser on May 7th, 2016 at 415 Westlake. Buy tickets here. In the meantime please consider a small donation to cover any one of the items on their wish list. Just $20 provides the moms with a one month supply of clean drinking water.

Many people have contacted me over the years asking for a quick, clean & modern professional headshot session that gives them a few retouched, high-resolution files they can use for self-promotion without breaking the bank. Don’t you think it’s time to swap out that wedding photo of yourself on LinkedIn? How about an OKCupid avatar that doesn’t have your ex cropped off the side?

Introducing the Quickie! 15 minutes of shooting, 15 minutes of choosing your favorite 3 images to be retouched & delivered to your inbox within 3 days. All for $350. Quickie sessions take place at my Capitol Hill, Seattle daylight studio. Hair/makeup touch-ups available as an add-on. Use the Contact button up top to schedule your session!

Out of office 2/3/16 – 2/10/16 & 2/20/16-2/28/16

OutofOffice

I’m currently in Cap-Haiten, Haiti, documenting the women / operations of Haiti Babi, a non-profit that employs women at twice the local wage to knit and crochet the most beautiful baby hats & blankets. The employment and consistent income allows them to provide food, education and housing for their families. I can’t wait to see first hand the big impact this little company has made in the last three years!

Yes, I know all about Zika and no, I am not pregnant. My arms and stomach have been poked and prodded by vaccines and pills in anticipation, I have enough deet to spray down an elephant and all of my clothes have been soaked in permethrin. I am a walking mosquito net.

Later this month I’ll be teaching again at one of the most fun creative conferences for photographers, Field Trip. From 2/21-2/28 I’ll either be shooting a wedding (2/20) or deep in a canyon, competing with other campers for what little wifi we’re able to eek out of that gorgeous landscape (21st – 28th).

If there is an urgent need to reach me during those stretches, please text me at 1.206.484.2912. All event & session inquiries will be responded to upon my return. Please note that 2016 wedding dates are booked through September. Thanks!

Ritual House of Yoga

003-Jimenez-RitualHouse-Jan2016050-Jimenez-RitualHouse-Jan2016

I’ve just started working with Ritual House of Yoga in Seattle, providing them with their own set of stock images to use for promotion. They’re a community-focused yoga studio on Capitol Hill with a wide array of classes for all levels. My favorites so far have been Forrest Hatha,  Hatha with Myofascial release, Restorative and their monthly Sound Bath with Daniella White (soooo good). Can you tell I mainly use yoga for stress reduction? They even have the hard to find Jivamukti.
