Amber & Mark: Victorian Valley Chapel & the Outlook Inn

From our first phone conversation about wedding photography, I felt like I had known Amber for years.  She is smart, funny, down to earth and just awesome to be around.  The first time I met Mark was on their wedding day, and it was obvious that these two complimented each other well.  He’s the sweet to her salty sweet.  Mark comes from a large, loving family and between the Friedl clan, Amber’s family and their extended family of lifelong friends, I felt like I was a member by the evening’s end.

Preparations were made early at Orcas Island’s Outlook Inn, where the reception was held.  I fall in love with this place every time I stay there.  If only I could wake up to this view every morning.  The San Juan Islands are the paradise of the Pacific Northwest.

The ceremony was held at the gorgeous Victorian Valley Chapel on 18 acres of land in a valley only a short drive from the Orcas ferry.  Leslie & John Ginnes from Patina Floral Design & Planning filled the space with tall glass vases with floating candles, flower petals and plumes of peacock feathers.

I spotted these two while in the car crossing an intersection and pulled a sly fast grab for the camera.

Juan.  I asked him if this was his truck and he said, “No, I don’t drink and drive”.

I don’t have a clue either.

Sweet Nate spends his Sundays at Brewsky’s.  It took a while for him to warm up to me.

Just half a block down from the above shenanigans is Full Tilt, an ice cream & pinball shoppe run by my friends and former wedding clients Ann & Opus.  The Ninja Turtles soccer team came over to celebrate a win.  They don’t actually keep score, so everyone wins.  In my book, if you’re eating ice cream you are definitely winning.

Sonny waits to get his first tattoo at DZul while girlfriend Chelsea hangs out for support.  I think she was more nervous than him.  They’re a cute couple and let me hang out for a few shots.

Sonny chose a wise saying by Confucius to etch across his chest; “Our greatest glory is not in in never falling but in getting up every time we do.”   A beautiful thing to be reminded of everytime you look in the mirror.

a bug’s life

Say hi to Biscuits, one of Simone & Luka’s best friends.  Biscuits is a “Bug” (part Pug, part Boston Terrier) and can take a beating.  It’s hard to tell but trust me, she’s having the time of her life here.  They play all day like this and when my pups are tired, Biscuits always comes back for another round.  The girl is a warrior.  That’s Luka making a move on her rear.

telekinesis

Telekinesis are making their way across the country in support of their self titled debut and from what I can see, they’re making quite the name for themselves in the process.  I got to shoot Michael & the gang for Merge Records a couple months ago and the photos have been getting some exercise.

But perhaps my favorite of them all is up on Carrie Brownstein’s NPR blog, Monitor Mix.  Those who know me are familiar with my soft spot for hugely influential Ms. Brownstein.    I’ll admit to squealing a bit when Sarah Jurado forwarded me this post.  (squeeeek!)

Blaschke’s Back in town!

My lady Amy B is back in town for two shows – one tomorrow night at the Sunset in Ballard and then again Thursday at the Comet on Capitol Hill.  Wednesday she’s singing with LA’s Big Eagle and Thursday will be an official Night Canopy show, for which you just might see me step up for a song.  All depends if I can warm up these pipes (cough).
